A ranking policeman who jumped to the help of a colleague who was ambushed by a knife attacker received the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a vehicle incident in the area in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his communication device.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording made public by the agency showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife extended.

He struck the officer who lost balance and dropped to the street, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an end.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his neck and additional cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster experienced slash wounds.

The department reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stop his colleague's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel reached the scene.

This most recent award follows after the trio of policemen won organizational Courage Honors in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area union branch in April 2024.

They additionally received a Area Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The responses of the entire team in the end saved one another and ensured no members of the public suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, per officials.
