Diving into an Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered plenty of interesting independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop attempting to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a jump control. Throughout 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and access a market to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.

Plan your actions precisely, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Leap using bubbles to launch the poop to new heights, traverse disappearing platforms, and activate switches to reveal new areas. Collect currency to purchase tougher game content where things gets crazy.

Visually, the game boasts vibrant stages and a killer soundtrack. The retro art of moving abstract forms evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, video games have long featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from protagonist waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme is present extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready currently on Steam, with the final release scheduled to launch on PC on November 19.
